Neil Young's Point

'The Path to Neal and Kelly's House 10" x 10" Oil on Linen SOLD

In March of '07, Bill and I were invited to stay with friends in a house on the Kohala coast, on the big island of Hawaii. I took my paints, of course, and spent each morning painting around our neighborhood, which was nestled in a cove. Our host purchased this painting while it was still on the easel, unfinished. Right after he claimed it, a woman walked up the path and offered to buy it. She said she'd like to invite me to her house, just up the path, which had lovely views. Unfortunately, she was a caretaker for the property and couldn't invite guests because the owner, who was a celebrity, was currently in residence. Her boss turned out to be Neil Young.neil%20young2.jpg

This is the view of the point Neil Young's house is on, from the cove in front of our vacation rental. I started this painting on the morning we arrived, then abandoned it when the light got impossibly intense. I brought it home from Hawaii, planning to continue working on it in the studio, but my friend Micki Flatmo (another painter) said it was perfect. "Enough said," she said. I decided to leave it alone.
